09 Mar The Spanish Minister of Defence visit in EUTM Mali 2-3 Mar 2023
The Spanish Minister of Defence, Mrs Margarita Robles, accompanied by the Chief of the Spanish Defence Staff, visited the Spanish contingent in EUTM Mali HQ, in Bamako and held a meeting with her Malian counterpart Mr Sadio Camara.
During her visit in Mali, the Spanish Minister of Defence was accompanied by the Chief of the Spanish Defence Staff (JEMAD), Admiral General Teodoro López Calderón, and the Secretary of State-Director General of the National Intelligence Centre (CNI), Mrs Esperanza Casteleiro. She was welcomed by the Spanish ambassador to Mali, Mr José Hornero, and the EUTM Mali Mission Force Commander, Brigadier General Santiago Fernández Ortiz-Repiso at Bamako-Sénou international airport.
Mrs Robles visited the María Inmaculada Sisters’ center and, in the afternoon, the Spanish delegation arrived at the EUTM Mali HQ in Bamako, where they were received by the EUTM Mali Mission Force Commander.
After paying tribute to the fallen during their service to EUTM Mali in the past, the Spanish Minister of Defence received an update on the current activities, the challenges, and the main ongoing projects of the Mission by the EUTM Mali Mission Force Commander. Mrs Robles met with the Senior National Representatives (SNRs) of each country participating in the military mission, to which Spain has been committed since 2013. To finish the first day, the head of the department attended a dinner with the staff of the Spanish contingent deployed in EUTM Mali and various organizations.
On 03 Mar 2023, Mrs Robles visited the orphanage “Association por le Soutien des Handicapés et Enfants Démunis”, and tthe United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) HQ, where she met with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Mali and Head of the Mission, Mr El Ghassim Wane.
