17 Apr EUTM MALI PRESS RELEASE Nº4 ABOUT COVID-19
In keeping with its policy of informing both the Malian people and the mission contributing nations, EUTM Mali wishes to advise of an additional 2 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
These 2 whose positive test results were confirmed today, 17 Apr 20, had been in isolation as they had been in close contact with previously announced cases. This brings to nine (9) the total number of confirmed cases within the Mission since the first case. To date six confirmed cases have been repatriated as well as the closest staff in contact with them. One person is in recovery, without symptoms, and has been quarantined for a further 14 days.
The 2 new cases confirmed are also in isolation the Mission Headquarters, under medical supervision and those with whom they had contact are in quarantine, pending repatriation to their countries of origin, for which preparations are currently underway.
The Mission Headquarters has been in lockdown since the first case symptoms appeared, and all training activities have been suspended since the week before.
EUTM Mali’s current priority is the health of its personnel and of its partners in the fight against Coronavirus. Appropriate hygiene and protective measures are in place and each EUTM member has their temperature checked daily. EUTM Mali will continue to enforce all possible safety measures, as advised by the World Health Organisation.
Our aim is to resume all EUTM activities as soon as the situation allows us to do so safely. We will remain in Mali and continue to implement our mandate in providing necessary advice, mentoring and when the situation permits training to our partners in the MaAF and G5 Sahel Joint Force.
