24 Oct WOMEN, PEACE AND SECURITY
Dear distinguished followers, it is a great pleasure and an honour for me to launch the EUTM Mali campaign to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 “Women, peace and security”.
This resolution acknowledges the vital role of women in conflict and crisis management as well as in peace-building and reconstruction. This gives the resolution a unique importance and throughout the years it became the centrepiece of a global movement. Inter alia it confirmed the relevance of routinely including gender perspectives when executing peacekeeping missions.
As regards the EUTM Mali, I am proud that the implementation of its mandate is done with a gender perspective in both internal and external tasks and is systematically addressed during all phases of the mission. The gender perspective helps us to increase our chances of operational success and effectiveness.
I wish to use this occasion to pay special tribute and express my gratitude to all women and men who make daily efforts and are strongly committed to prevent conflicts and promote peace and security.
Our campaign is one of many campaigns taking place in all parts of the world to highlight this event. But I can assure you that this campaign is worthy of attention.
Starting Monday 26 October, on our social media we will release the first video of a series by which we will present you some aspects that are covered by the resolution and mission activities in this regard, as well as the views of our female personnel.
Last video will be available on Saturday, October 31, the date of the anniversary of the adoption of UNSCR 1325. I am confident that you will find all videos and accompanying articles interesting. Make sure that you stay tuned and enjoy.
Thank you for your support.
