PLATOON TRAINING IN GAO

The EUTM Mali continues to provide training in GAO. This week was dedicated to training in International Humanitarian Law (IHL), tactical driving, tactical progressions, reaction to contact at platoon level and C-IED training.

The IHL training’s purpose is to give trainees the knowledge on laws of armed conflict and basic human rights through classroom and scenario based training.

The purpose of tactical driving lessons is to give the drivers, gunners and squad leaders the skills to advance with different formations using their MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles. The formation changes in accordance with the tactical situation.

The tactical progressions and reacting to opponent contact aim at maneuvering in a situation of direct contact with the adversary. These lessons are extremely relevant to learn how to respond in case of an ambush.

The Counter-IED training provides the platoon technics, tactics and procedures (TTPs) on reacting to different IED-situations. These situations may vary from a ”catastrophic kill scenario” to a ”no effect IED scenario”.
