A COMMON DOCTRINE

EUTM Mali through its Advisory Task Force (ATF) Doctrine and Education Cell planned and conducted the 1st Doctrine Course jointly with the Centre Interarmées des Doctrines (CID) Director between the 24th and the 28th of February 2020. The course was performed in the Direction d’Écoles Militaires (DEM) facilities. Three Doctrine and Education Officers delivered the course and the Malian Armed Forces (MaAF) instructors were the CID Director, the Representative of the Direction de la Sécurité Militaire (DSM) and the Representative of the DEM. 12 MaAF Officers belonging to several departments such as Doctrine, Air Force, Military Security, Military Schools, Army General Staff, Engineers, Logistics, Transmissions and Telecommunications and the National Guard, attended the course.

The main goal of the Doctrine Course was to complete the knowledge of the MaAF Officers about the doctrinal process. Thus, the course had as learning objectives: encourage Officers to develop doctrinal documents and how to research doctrinal topics, to know where open source foreign doctrinal documents can be found and how to adapt them to the Malian reality and lastly, understand the importance of the DEM role in teaching doctrine.

Furthermore, the course also included elements to highlight the importance of knowing a document’s security level, to develop the analytical and critical thinking skills of MaAF Officers using approved doctrinal documents and to understand the importance of the Lessons Learnt Process. Finally, the MaAF Officers were able to improve their knowledge about CID’s mission, the definition of doctrine, role and production of doctrinal documents, as well as key definitions regarding current doctrine.
