09 Oct On 09 Octobre 2017, the new head of mission of EUCAP Sahel Mali, Mr Philippe Rio, visited its EU partner, EUTM Mali.
Appointed on 18 September by the EU political and security Committee, Mr Philippe Rio, took the lead of the EUCAP Sahel Mali mission on 01 October 2017. EUTM Mali and EUCAP Sahel Mali, together with the mission EUCAP Sahel Niger, are partners in the framework of the EU’s comprehensive approach to security and development in the Sahel region. The EUCAP Sahel Mali mission helps the Malian state to guarantee the constitutional and democratic order, to put in place the conditions of a lasting peace and to maintain its authority throughout the territory. EUCAP Sahel Mali comprises a team of advisors and trainers based in Bamako, who work with the internal security forces and at the ministerial level to improve the human resources system, reorganize the training policy and provide training for executives in the sector with high potential (les “cadres d’avenir”).
Its mandate currently runs until 14 January 2018. The mission has its headquarters in Bamako, Mali.
Philippe Rio succeeded Albrecht Conze (of German nationality), who had held this position since May 2014.
