18 Sep EUTM Mali Commander awarded prizes to the winners at the first Cartooning for Peace festival in Mali
From 14 to 16 September, the first cartoon festival in Mali (FESCAB) was hold in Bamako featuring the theme “Cartooning for Peace in Mali”. The festival programme included stands of 20 pre-selected cartoonists, contests between caricaturists, a workshop for 20 young designers, lectures with debates and animated videos. Belgium financed the event with sponsorship provided by the Belgian press designer Nicolas Vadot and Franco-Burkina Faso’s Damien Ghadge.
The force commander of EUTM Mali, Brigadier General Bart Laurent, and the force commander of MINUSMA, Major General Jean-Paul Deconinck , awarded prizes of the drawing competition.
The language of comics is universal. The way of enjoying them can vary from one culture to another. Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law is an essential part of EUTM training to the Malian Armed Forces. A major component of HR is the freedom of opinion and expression (*) The EUTM Mali training offered includes a basic understanding of humanity, distinction, proportionality and military necessity as core principles.
